These two sweet girls?
They are friends of my boys—met in preschool years (for the older two), and have stayed friends through different schools, schedules, houses and seasons. They remind me how much can change over time… and how much still stays true.
Babies don’t keep.
Time is a thief.
The days are long, but the years are fast.
You blink and they’ve grown.
And yes—every stage has a gift in it.
“Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work.” – C.S. Lewis is a quote is on my website for a reason!
💛 From One Mama’s Heart to Yours
Whether your child is starting kindergarten, entering high school, or somewhere beautifully in between—back-to-school isn’t just a date on the calendar. It’s a season of growth, letting go, and holding on.
A MOPS friend once told me, “The teen years are like a slow breakup with your son.” Another friend years later said the same is true for dads and their teenage daughters.
And they are both right.
Backpacks get heavier. Voices change. Summer sandals are outgrown. You realize someone’s really grown when a neighbor says, “Wow—she’s shot up since I last saw her!”

No matter how your family schools—public, private, charter, or homeschool—each fall marks a shift.
Some kids crave routine. Others grieve the end of pool days, road trips, part-time jobs, and slow mornings. It’s all part of growing up and these milestones are worth capturing.
📸 What Are Micro-Sessions?
Think of these as a “glimmer” of a full senior session:
- More personality than a school picture
- More polish than a phone photo
- Less stress than a full portrait session
In about 5 minutes, I’ll photograph the version of your child that exists right now:
That fresh haircut.
The “I’ve got this, Mom” grin.
The confidence peeking through.
Or the quiet nerves they’ll likely never tell you about.

These portraits are meant for your walls, your heart, and maybe the grandparents wallets, too (yes, they still make sheets of wallets & not everything is digital).

Why HLP?
I’ve been a photographer since 2006—and a mom since 2010. I know what it’s like to want more than a quick snapshot, but not always have the bandwidth for something big.
Heather Lilly Photography is rooted in:
- Natural light (sometimes with a little extra flash)
- A combination of posing and prompts
- Editorial, polished but natural looking edits
- And a momma’s heart and respect for the season you are in
This is less about the pose—and more about the presence. You can see the behind-the-scenes from this session on HLP’s Instagram!
Let’s pause time for just a moment, so you can take a breath, remember the season, and have one less thing on your plate.
About Heather
Heather Lilly is a portrait and branding photographer based in Greeley, Colorado. For portraits, she gladly chases golden hour throughout Northern Colorado and beyond. With nearly two decades of experience behind the lens and a storyteller’s heart, she specializes in capturing moments that feel honest, natural, and polished.
Described by those who’ve seen her work up close as a “natural-born storyteller,” Heather blends illustrative imagery with the kind of writing that lingers.
When she’s not photographing families, seniors, and entrepreneurs, she’s raising two incredible boys, learning something new, and is entering a new season as her boys begin their first year in public school after nine years of homeschooling.
